Climate

The summer season in Mount Abu lasts from mid-April to mid-June, with average maximum temperatures reaching around 34–36°C. Light cotton clothing is recommended, as it is most suitable for the warm yet pleasant summer climate of the hill station.

The monsoon season in Mount Abu begins around late June and continues until September. The hill station receives moderate to heavy rainfall, bringing lush greenery and a fresh, misty atmosphere. Temperatures remain comfortable, ranging between 20°C and 30°C. Carrying light rainwear and non-slip footwear is advisable to enjoy the scenic beauty during this time.

The winter season in Mount Abu lasts from November to February. During this period, temperatures range between 10°C and 25°C, with nights sometimes dropping to around 5°C. The air remains crisp and clear, making it an ideal time for sightseeing. Warm woollen clothing is recommended, especially for the cooler evenings and early mornings.

Tourist Attractions in Mount Abu

Dilwara Temples

Located just 3 kilometres from Mount Abu, the renowned Dilwara Jain Temples were built between the 11th and 13th centuries AD by Vastupal Tejpal. Celebrated for their exceptional marble craftsmanship, these temples are considered among the finest Jain pilgrimage sites in the world. The understated yet elegant design reflects core Jain values such as simplicity, honesty, and frugality.

Nakki Lake

Usually referred to as the heart of Mount Abu, Nakki Lake is steeped in legend. It is believed to have been carved out by the Gods using their nails—nakh in Hindi—giving the lake its name. Revered by local tribes as a holy site, the lake is a popular spot for boating and evening strolls. Located within walking distance of the primary market and most hotels, it’s a popular hub for couples, families, and groups.

Guru Shikhar

Standing tall at 1,722 metres (5,676 feet), Guru Shikhar is the highest peak in the Aravalli Range. Located about 18 km from Mount Abu, a scenic road leads nearly to the summit. The peak houses a temple dedicated to Dattatreya, believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Named after this respected figure, Guru Shikhar is both a spiritual site and a spectacular vantage point for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Sunset Point

Situated to the southwest of Nakki Lake, Sunset Point is one of Mount Abu’s most visited spots. Every evening, it draws crowds keen to watch the sun dip behind the hills, painting the sky in vivid hues. The area has a lively, fair-like atmosphere with food stalls, pony rides, and souvenir shops.

Achalgarh Fort and Temples

About 11 kilometres from Mount Abu lies Achalgarh, a historic fort built initially by the Paramara dynasty and later rebuilt by Maharana Kumbha in 1452 CE. Perched at the end of a steep winding path, the fort encloses ancient Jain temples and is surrounded by fortified walls offering sweeping countryside views. A visit to Achalgarh is a journey into the region’s layered history and spiritual heritage.
